How’s Your Heart?

February is American Heart Health Month, a time when we are educated and encouraged to focus on cardiovascular health. The human heart is one the most significant organs of the human body and affects the healthy function of every major system in the body.  When the heart is unhealthy is affects, other major organs causing them to eventually fail and threaten our lives.

Proverbs 4:23, admonishes us “keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Without the proper diet, exercises, and check-ups we are more susceptible to the negative issues than can negatively impact our physical heart.  Likewise, the heart is vital spiritually, physically, mentally, financially, relationally, and occupationally.

Let’s do a heart check-up right here:  Allow me to ask you some coaching questions that if answered properly can ensure that you maintain a healthy heart.

  • What fears are you carrying in your heart, that cause stress and anxiety to be your normal way of living and being?

  • Who do you need to forgive so that your heart can heal from past hurts and disappointments?

  • When was the last time you worked with a counselor, spiritual director, or therapist to process grief, pain, and loss or to gain clarity on life experiences?

  • What are you doing to ensure that your spiritual, physical, mental, financial, relational, and occupational heart is healthy?

  • When was the last time you felt a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction in your career, ministry, and vocation?

  • When was the last time you checked to see if your relationships with family and friends are working properly?

When we practice regular “heart checks” we ensure that our heart is functioning properly. If you are alarmed or dissatisfied with your answers to the above questions, I highly recommend that you begin a process of coaching, physical fitness, counseling, or therapy to improve your heart health.

Why? Because all of life’s issues flow from our heart…
